First organised in 2005, the HomeTeamNS Strongman Challenge is the only strength competition in Singapore. It is designed to reflect some of the qualities Home Team NSmen possess – physical strength, endurance, determination, teamwork, agility and mental muscle. Participants are put through 5 heavyweight challenges (see below). Currently approaching its 8th year, the competition has evolved to include females! Preliminaries for Men and Women’s Individuals / U20 Tag-Team Challenge / Home Team Tag-Team Challenge
The preliminary round will be conducted on Sunday, 26 February 2012 at the National Service Training Institute (NSTI), 91 Jalan Bahar, Singapore 649735. Top ten/six participants (Men/Women), 4 Teams (Tag Teams) will be selected for the Grand Finals at Toa Payoh HDB Hub based on fastest total timing in the following events:

1. Stamford 350kg/150kg Tyre Flip (Prelim & Finals)
Competitors are required to flip a tractor tyre weighing 350kg/150kg (Men/Women).
- The Competitor will only commence after hearing the whistle.
- The Competitor cannot roll or throw the tyre.
- If the tyre accidentally rolls forward, the Competitor must shift it back to the position where it started rolling before the Competitor can continue.
- Grip chalk is allowed outside the lane during the flips. Assistants are allowed to hold the grip chalk for contestants outside the lane.
- The Competitor must keep his tyre within his own lane. The Competitor will be disqualified from the entire event if the entire tyre falls outside his own lane.
- The entire tyre must flip 6 times for the Men Category & Women Category before the timing is recorded (motionless).
- A maximum of Men: 4 minutes (240sec) & Women: 5 minutes (300sec) is given for each participant to complete the event. Competitor is to stop once the whistle is being blown to indicate that the time limit is up so that the officials can recorded the distance covered.
- Competitor who fails to complete the stipulated distance within Men: 4 minutes (240sec) & Women: 5 minutes (300sec) will be given the lowest score of 1 point.
- In the event that there is more than one finalist who failed to complete the event, the distance covered will be used to determine the scores given with the lowest point given for the shortest distance covered.
- The measured distance will be taken from the starting point to the nearest point of the tyre closest to the starting line.
2. 3M Scotch Log Walk (Prelim & Finals)
Competitors are required to carry 1 log weighing 120kg/50kg (Men/Women) in each hand and compete for the fastest time over a 40 metres distance.
- The Competitor will only commence after hearing the whistle.
- The Competitor must use the handles on the logs and transport both logs at the same time.
- The Competitor must carry and walk with 2 logs simultaneously. Throwing or swinging is not allowed.
- The Competitor is allowed to place down the logs at any point to rest.
- The Competitor will be disqualified from the entire event if the logs fall outside his own lane
- The Competitor is required to do a U-turn at the 20 metres mark indicated by a cone and complete the remaining 20 metres.
- Timing will be taken only after both the Competitor’s legs (together with both logs) have crossed the finishing line.
- A maximum of 1.5 minutes (90sec) is given for each participant to complete the event. Competitor is to stop once the whistle is being blown to indicate that the time limit is up so that the officials can recorded the distance covered.
- Competitor who fails to complete the stipulated distance within 1.5 minutes (90sec) will be given the lowest score of 1 point.
- In the event that there is more than one finalist who failed to complete the event, the distance covered will be used to determine the scores given with the lowest point given for the shortest distance covered.
- The measured distance will be taken from the starting point to the nearest point of either log closest to the starting line.
3. SCDF Red Rhino & Police Jeep Pull (Prelim & Finals)
Competitors are required to pull the SCDF Red Rhino and SPF Police Jeep weighing a total of 6-tonnes over a 15 metres distance.
- The Competitor will only commence after hearing the whistle.
- The Competitor must place the rope and harness over his shoulder and across his chest and his back must be facing the vehicle.
- The Competitor’s hands cannot touch the ground while pulling the vehicle.
- The Competitor cannot alter the distance between himself and the vehicle.
- The Competitor’s both feet must cross the finish line before the timing is recorded.
- A maximum of 1.5 minutes (90sec) is given for each participant to complete the event. Competitor is to stop once the whistle is being blown to indicate that the time limit is up so that the officials can recorded the distance covered.
- Competitor who fails to complete the stipulated distance within 1.5 minutes (90sec) will be given the lowest score of 1 point.
- In the event that there is more than one finalist who failed to complete the event, the distance covered will be used to determine the scores given with the lowest point given for the shortest distance covered.
- The measured distance will be taken from the starting point to the rear tires of the vehicle.
4. Mazda Zoom-Zoom CX-7 Car Pull (Finals)

Competitors are required to stand within a specified area and pull a sponsored vehicle weighing 2 tonnes over 20 metres.
- The Competitor will only commence after hearing the whistle.
- The Competitor is not allowed to move out of the specified area and the Competitor will be disqualified from the event if both legs leave the area.
- Timing will be taken only after the front tyres of the vehicle crosses the finishing line.
- A maximum of 1.5 minutes (90sec) is given for each Competitor to complete the event. Competitor is to stop once the whistle is being blown to indicate that the time limit is up so that the officials can recorded the distance covered.
- Competitor who fails to complete the stipulated distance within 1.5 minutes (90sec) will be given the lowest score of 1 point.
- In the event that there is more than one finalist who failed to complete the event, the distance covered will be used to determine the scores given with the lowest point given for the shortest distance covered.
- The measured distance will be taken from the vehicle’s starting point to the rear tires of the vehicle.
